Bodywork Modalities

Swedish/Relaxation Massage is the modality many people think of when they think "massage." Smooth gliding strokes are used to manipulate and relax muscles, and active or passive movement of the joints may also be part of the massage. Pressure levels are adjusted to your comfort. This is a great option if you are new to massage.

Myofascial Release (MFR). Fascia is connective tissue within the body, an interconnected network that wraps around every cell, tissue, and organ. Damage to the body such as trauma, inflammatory responses, and surgical procedures create restrictions in this structural system that can create tensile pressures within the body that cause pain and restrict movement. MFR is a safe and effective technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure on areas of myofascial restriction in order to restore motion and eliminate tension and pain.

Acupressure. Utilizing the principles of acupuncture and Chinese medicine, acupressure is a form of touch therapy where specific points on the body are pressed to stimulate the body's self-curative abilities. Acupressure also helps to release muscular tension, promote the circulation of blood, and release energy blockages.

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, non-invasive form of bodywork developed by physician John Upledger, DO. The craniosacral system is comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. CST involves using a soft touch to detect and release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system. CST complements the body's natural healing processes. It can bolster resistance to disease and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction.
